China Stock Market Tipped To Open Under Pressure

(RTTNews) - The China stock market has finished lower in two straight sessions, sliding more than 25 points or 0.7 percent along the way. The Shanghai Composite Index now sits just above the 3,270-point plateau and it may extend its losing streak on Friday. The global forecast for the Asian markets is soft on concerns over the economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. The European and U.S. markets were down and the Asian markets are tipped to open in similar fashion. The SCI finished modestly lower on Thursday following losses from the properties and oil companies, while the financials and insurance companies were mixed. For the day, the index lost 13.49 points or 0.41 percent to finish at 3,270.44 after trading between 3,248.50 and 3,290.41. No US trade deal if UK doesn't honour Northern Ireland peace pact under Brexit, warns Biden

LONDON (REUTERS) - US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has warned the United Kingdom that it must honour the Northern Irish peace deal as it extracts itself from the European Union or there will be no US trade deal. "We can't allow the Good Friday Agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland to become a casualty of Brexit," Mr Biden said in a tweet. "Any trade deal between the US and UK must be contingent upon respect for the Agreement and preventing the return of a hard border. Period." Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled legislation last week that would break parts of the Brexit divorce treaty relating to Northern Ireland, blaming the EU for putting a revolver on the table in trade talks and trying to divide the United Kingdom. The Shanghai Composite Index now sits just beneath the 3,285-point plateau and the losses may accelerate on Thursday. The global forecast for the Asian markets is mixed to lower after the Federal Reserve downgraded its GDP forecast. The European markets were mixed and the U.S. bourses were mostly in the red and the Asian markets also figure to open lower. The SCI finished modestly lower on Wednesday as losses from the insurance companies were mitigated by support from the financial shares and property stocks. For the day, the index lost 11.76 points or 0.36 percent to finish at 3,283.92 after trading between 3,271.07 and 3,302.46.
